Quick post today, recently a customer asked us that they have created a new VPC in AWS but when they launch an EC2 instance in a public subnet, they don’t see a public IP assigned to it.
To assign automatically public IPs, there are few things to look into when you launch an EC2 instance as follows
1. Public Subnet Auto-assign IPs property
The first option is making sure that under VPC > Subnet > select your public-subnet. Choose modify auto-assign IP settings from Subnet Actions menu and make sure to check Auto-assign IPs as shown in the slide
2. Instance Configuration Settings
The second option is to verify during Step 3: Configure Instance Details screen when launching an EC2 Instance make sure the Auto-assign IP value is to use subnet setting (If it is enabled at subnet level see Option 1) or Enable
Hope you find this quick tip useful
